Vitali Klitschko Says Retirement Claims are False
Many believed Vitali Klitschko's TKO victory over against Manuel Charr a few weeks ago would serve as his final bout as the 41 year old two-time heavyweight champion is looking to transition into politics.
But not so fast....
The current WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko strongly denies he's retired nor is there any hint he intends to leave boxing anytime soon.
Klitschko, a candidate for mayor of Kiev, issued a statement regarding his alleged exodus fpr the sport:
"I am in the pre-election tour of Ukraine, so coming to the Donetsk region is not exactly in order to complete my career," said Vitali on the Klitschkos' Facebook page.
"I'm a little bit tired of the question 'when will it happen?' I've repeatedly stated that when such a decision is made I'll be sure to announce it at a separate press conference.
"And for now there is no talk about the end of my career. I'm sorry if I didn't put enough emphasis on this at the news conference in Donetsk, which is quoted in the media."
This past summer, it was believed the 41 year old heavyweight champion would soon retire from boxing to focus more on the worsening situation in his native Ukraine.
Elections will take place next month.
If he is elected Mayor if Kiev in October he will quit his (boxing) career, for sure," added Vitali's manager, Bernd Boente, earlier this year.
So why has Vitali Klitschko not yet announced his retirement?
Reason 1: His decision to continue in boxing may be influenced by October's election
Reason 2: David Haye
Reason 3: A combination of Reasons 1 and 2
Following Haye's destruction of Dereck Chisora in July, Boente backtracked on his aforementioned comment, stating, "There is still a chance the [Haye] fight will come, but not this year. It will probably be in England on pay-per-view next year, possibly in March."
On September 14th, 2011, FightSaga hinted Vitali Klitschko vs David Haye was likely for 5 reasons.
Revenue-wise, Vitali Klitschko vs David Haye is still the biggest fight in the heavyweight division so don't be surprised if it happens sometime in Spring 2013... Especially if Vitali loses his bid for mayor.
