WBO October heavyweight rankings: Ridiculous

The World Boxing Organization's (WBO) October 2017 heavyweight rankings leave a lot to be desired.

Of course, some will insist the World Boxing Association (WBA) isn’t much better.

But back to the WBO…

How are Christian Hammer (22-4, 12 KO) and a fella named Tom Schwarz (19-0, 12 KO) its top two contenders? And how are they ahead of far more accomplished fighters such as Alexander Povetkin (32-1, 23 KO), Luis Ortiz (27-0, 23 KO) and Kubrat Pulev (25-1, 13 KO)? And how is Otto Wallin (18-0, 12 KO) in front of Andy Ruiz Jr (29-1, 19 KO) whose sole loss is a narrow, somewhat controversial points verdict to the organization's undefeated champion, Joseph Parker?

Sure, Schwarz and Wallin are unbeaten, but both have had less than 20 pro fights and neither has defeated a name opponent. Not one!

Also, nowhere to be found in the WBO's top 15 heavyweights are: Pulev, Lucas Browne, David Haye, Mariusz Wach and Alexander Ustinov. Yet, we see Schwarz and Wallin as well as two other non-descript fellas, Kyotaro Fujimoto (17-1, 9 KO) and Agit Kabayel (16-0, 12 KO).
Incidentally, Kabayel faces Dereck Chisora on November 4.

To call their heavyweight rankings unfair and entirely inappropriate would be a collosal understatement.

Joseph Parker insists he wants to fight bigger names but he won't accomplish that by facing his mandatories.

All four of the major sanctioning bodies run as quasi businesses and most fans understand that. However, their egregiousness at times is insulting to the fighters and the sport's aficionados.
