It's working... It's working.

“Like it or not, controversy sells in the fight game. Whether or not anyone takes Shannon seriously is completely irrelevant because people have once again started talking about him in the Heavyweight division," Detroit-based fighter/trainer Johnathon Banks told FightSaga's Joseph Herron last month.

“Shannon is hoping that everyone will eventually say, ‘why don’t you just give this guy a shot so you can hurry up and knock this guy out’."

"That’s what Shannon wants."

And it's working...

In a recent poll taken by German media giant BILD, 72 percent of those questioned chose Shannon Briggs as their desired next opponent for heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko who looked sensational in dispatching top-rated contender Kubrat Pulev a few weeks ago.

Klitschko, of course, will likely face Bryant Jennings next in Brooklyn. However, Wladimir Klitschko’s manager Bernd Bönte admitted the 43 year old Briggs is their 'fall back' option should Teams Klitschko and Jennings not come to terms.

Briggs, who has publicly stalked and taunted Wlad since April, said in response:

“It makes all the sense in the world for Klitschko to fight me in New York next."

"From an economic business standpoint it’s a no brainer. I was born and raised in New York and the venue will be packed with my supporters."

"It seems like everywhere I go, my ‘Let’s go champ’ is chanted. I’m the most colorful fighter since Muhammad Ali."

"Wlad you said you want what the people want. The numbers don’t lie, as you saw the German media giant BILD had a resounding 72% wanting Briggs-Klitschko to fight next."

Briggs is 6-0, 5 KOs since his comeback started in April and 4 of his 5 knockouts have come in the first round.

Although the Klitschko and Jennings camps appear to be close to a deal, anything can happen. What if Bryant is injured during training?

Is Briggs really this close to a title shot?
