Mayweather vs. Berto: "Floyd is still a beast in the gym," insists TMT fighter

With three weeks until his 49th professional fight, Floyd Mayweather is busy preparing for the best version of two-time Welterweight title holder, Andre Berto.

Although the overwhelming majority of the often critical boxing community isn’t really “feeling” the perceived 80 to 1 mismatch that is Mayweather vs Berto, the self proclaimed “TBE” is training like he’s scheduled to face the toughest opponent of his 17 year pro career on September 12th.

According to Junior Welterweight contender and “Money Team” member, Ashley Theophane, Floyd Jr. is looking very sharp while training at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“This is my sixth camp with Floyd and he is looking really good right now,” stated the 34 year old fighter.

“I’ve sparred him several times during this camp and it’s always good work. It’s really great to be able to exchange with the best fighter in boxing.”

When asked what it’s like to tangle with the best pound for pound fighter on the planet, the native Londoner’s response wasn’t surprising.

“He’s so good. Floyd forces you to step up your game in the gym. And if you don’t step up your game, he’ll drown you in the ring…he’ll beat you up, and have fun doing it. But it’s good work and I genuinely believe he enjoys it.”

It’s been two years since Theophane initially joined “The Money Team” and to his knowledge, the pound for pound king is still performing like the best fighter in boxing.

“Floyd’s in top form right now,” claims Ashley Theophane. “A few weeks ago, he put one fighter to sleep, and had another out on his feet. So he’s been sharp in the gym.”

“It’s just a real pleasure to watch him work and prepare for a prizefight. This man is worth so much money and has accomplished everything there is to accomplish in the sport, yet he still pushes himself like he’s still a young, unproven fighter who has nothing.”

Despite Mayweather’s consistent message that his September 12th bout with Andre Berto will indeed be the last of his future Hall of Fame career, The British born fighter believes Floyd could continue to compete at the highest level well into his 40’s.

“He continues to work hard, and continues to look great in the ring…he takes extremely good care of himself and doesn’t abuse his body. I don’t see why he can’t fight a few more years. But that’s entirely up to him.”

“I don’t know if he wants to at this point…but he very well could.”
