The IBF heavyweight eliminator between No. 1 rated Eddie Chambers and No. 2 Tony Thompson will take place on Friday, October 28 at Bally's Atlantic City with the winner placing himself in a mandatory bout against the reigning IBF, WBO and WBA Heavyweight World Champion Wladimir Klitschko.
Wladimir's brother, Vitali, holds the WBC portion of the World Heavyweight Championship.
Thompson fought Wladimir Klitschko for a portion of the heavyweight title in Germany on July 12, 2008, but lost by way of Knock out with 1:28 remaining of the 11th round. It was Thompson's second career loss. He tired after the seventh round according to the ring interview without a plausible reason.
Wladimir Klitschko also successfully defended his titles against Eddie Chambers, scoring a knockout with only five seconds before the end of the twelfth and final round in March 2010. During the bout, Klitschko was criticized between rounds by his trainer Emanuel Steward for not fighting aggressively enough despite having won all prior rounds.
If Wladimir Klitschko adheres to the IBF's mandatory challenge, either Thompson or Chambers will serve as his fourth rematch opponent. Wladimir, 3-0 in rematches, has rematched Sam Peter, Lamon Brewster and Chris Byrd.
