Golovkin vs Murray resultsWritten by Leroy Cleveland
Today, from Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco, middleweight title-holder Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (32-0, 29 KO), undoubtedly one of the most avoided fighters in the last 30 years, face rugged British tough guy Martin Murray.
Both men entered the ring with the mindset of a fighter who had never truly tasted defeat but, unfortunately for Murray, only one man exited it in the same fashion.
Gennady Golovkin once again impressively retained his WBO/WBA middleweight titles, defeating Martin Murray via an 11th Round TKO.
Golovkin unleashed his usual brutality, hurting Murray early and sending him to the canvas twice in Round 4. But the challenger, whose nose bled from repeated uppercuts, was resilient.
Bloodied and battered, Murray, who was said to have endured "pure hell" in training, gave a good account of himself and landed some sweet shots of his own but couldn't keep the relentless Golovkin off.
And while Murray proved he could 'take a lickin' and keep on tickin', he took too many flush punches from Golovkin and was subsequently the recipient of a thorough beating.
In Rounds 8 and 9, a tired, weakened Murray was simply target practice for Golovkin. Yet, the Brit rallied a bit early on in Round 10. However, the gallant challenger would taste the canvas again by the round's end, compliments of a massive right hand that sent him flying.
Mercifully, the bout was halted by referee Luis Pabon in round eleven after a hard right staggered Murray. Time was 2:10.
It was a dominant performance by the WBA/WBC middleweight champion who earned his 19th straight stoppage.
Murray, who was just 3 minutes and 10 seconds from taking the champion the distance, has nothing to be ashamed off and likely elevated his stock this evening.
SkyBet had Golovkin a whopping 18 to 1 favorite while others, such as Bet365, tabbed the WBO champ at 25 to 1.
