So who will WBA/WBC World Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin 32-0-0 (19KOs) fight next?
To the chagrin of many fight fans, it will not be Miguel Cotto, Carl Froch, Andre Ward, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr or Canelo Alvarez.
However, Golovkin will be facing a young, hungry contender.
On May 16, the fearsome-punching middleweight will square off against the formidable Willie Monroe 19-1-0 (6KOs) at The Forum in Inglewood.
"Golovkin dominated again, like I thought he would do," stated Teddy Atlas on the a recent episode of ESPNs Friday Night Fights following Gennady's destruction of Martin Murray last month.
"The same way he dominated Geale, Rubio, Macklin all of those guys. They're all from the same cookie cutter. They are guys who are in front of you, but with no special talent no special ability."
Will Willie Monroe give the fighter dubbed 'GGG' a real test?
Nicknamed 'The Mongoose,' the 28 year old challenger has won nine in a row.
In his most recent outing on January 16, Monroe won a ten round unanimous decision over Brian Vera. A southpaw, Monroe won nine of ten rounds on all three scorecards that night and was crowned ESPN's 2014 Boxino middleweight tournament champion.
As a middleweight, the 5'10" Monroe is ranked #2 by the WBA, #5 by the WBO and #9 by the WBC. However, with only 6 knockouts in nineteen wins, does Willie Monroe have the punching power to keep the pressuring 'GGG' at bay.
