Anthony Joshua next fight: Who is this guy? (Video)Written by Leroy Cleveland
IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will make his first defense against unbeaten American Dominic Breazeale at The O2 in London on June 25.
We last saw the 6'6", heavy-handed Joshua on April 9 in his title-taking destruction of previously undefeated Charles Martin. Now, AJ is looking at handing another heavyweight his first loss.
So who is Dominic Breazeale?
As an amateur, he fought at super heavyweight and was the number one rated U.S. amateur boxer in the division heading into the 2012 Olympics.
Boasting a 17-0 record to the UK with 15 stoppages, the former Olympian recently stopped surging Amir Mansour in five, thrusting himself into contender status.
Breazeale is a lot like Joshua and the fighters are on similar paths. Both men are giant heavyweights who are former Olympians and are unbeaten and have high knockout ratios.
Their biggest difference to date is level of opposition as Joshua would seem to have a decisive edge in that category.
Why was Breazeale selected for Anthony Joshua's next fight?
Obviously, being an unbeaten former Olympian with a high knockout ratio, like Joshua, makes him an attractive opponent. Moreover, Anthony may not be ready for the likes of Tyson Fury and David Haye yet and needs more work against top-level contenders. But make no mistake, Breazeale will be a bigger challenge to AJ than Charles Martin, Joshua's previous opponent and a top quality prospect.
