Jessie Vargas plans to go for the KO against Manny Pacquiao on November 5thWritten by Joseph Herron
With news of Manny Pacquiao electing to come out of retirement and compete for the WBO Welterweight championship against Jessie Vargas, the newly crowned title holder is already planning to put forth an entertaining effort, and hopefully a star-making performance in his first PPV headlining opportunity.
"I've become a much stronger fighter with more experience," the 27 year old champion stated to FightHub TV. "Thanks to my trainer Dewey Cooper, we're a great team and I'm more confident with my power. I want to continue to entertain the fans and am looking forward to more sensational, knock-out wins."
Now that the Philippines Senator has chosen Jessie as his worthy adversary, the hungry, Las Vegas resident has already begun formulating a game plan. To give himself plenty of ideas on how to fight the eight division world champion, Vargas reflects back on the Pacman's most recent performance…a dominant effort against former two division world titlist Tim Bradley.
"I think Manny looked very good actually," stated Jessie Vargas immediately following Pacquiao's unanimous decision victory over Bradley in April. "He impressed all of us. He still has the speed, he still has the power, and I don't think a lot of us want to see him retire just yet."
"I still think he has much more gas in the tank."
Although Jessie believed the twelve round contest was a competitive and entertaining affair, the intelligent young title holder feels Tim implemented the wrong fight plan against the 37 year old ring legend.
"Bradley fought a good fight, and he made it competitive, but I think he was too defensive against Manny. The times that he did attack, he had some success. But he was just too defensive to win. That was the problem, I think."
"He must have seen Floyd's fight with Pacquiao. But there's only one Mayweather. He was trying to use angles and counter Manny, but he just wasn't able to do it. He should have adopted a more aggressive strategy and made the adjustment when he saw his defensive plan wasn't working. He just didn't attack enough."
When asked how a fight between he and Manny would play out, Vargas seemed very confident that he and Pacquiao would produce fireworks in the ring.
"It's going to be an absolute war," insisted Jessie Vargas to FightHub TV.
