Roy Jones Jr fighting again despite presumed net worthWritten by Leroy Cleveland
According to BoxingScene.com, fight legend Roy Jones Jr (64-9, 46 KOs) will step in the ring yet again.
Jones Jr, of course, was brutally knocked out a year ago by Enzo Maccarinelli in Russia and subsequently remained on the canvas for quite some time.
Last summer, to the joy of many of his supporters, there were rumors Roy had finally decided to hang 'em up to focus on training and promoting instead. But no, Roy, who turns 48 next month, apparently isn't finished with boxing.
Roy Jones Jr's opponent
The boxing great will face Bobby Gunn (21-6-1, 18 KO) on February 17th 2017 for a vacant cruiserweight title sanctioned by something called WBF.
So who is Bobby Gunn?
The 43 year old gun is a former World Heavyweight Bare Knuckle Boxing (BKB) Champion who has competed in over 70 bare knuckle fights.
A cruiserweight as a pro boxer, Gunn typically weighs between 185 and 200 pounds for his fights and was stopped inside the distance by James Toney and Tomasz Adamek in 2012 and 2009, respectively. And in most recent bout in December 2013, Gunn lost a unanimous decision to a well-past-his-rime Glen Johnson.
Gunn debuted as a 154 lb jr middleweight in 1989 and won 11 of his first 13 bouts before taking an 11 year hiatus from boxing in 1993. The fighter dubbed "Celtic Warrior" would return to the ring in 2004 as a cruiserweight.
Roy Jones Jr: Net worth
So why does Jones continue to fight and risk serious injury? According to TheRichest.com, he boasts a net worth of $45 Million while other sources insist that number is closer to $20 Million.
Perhaps his liquid assets are low? Or maybe he simply can't help himself.
Roy Jones Jr dominated the boxing scene from 1993 to 2004 and was an exceptional multi-talented fighter with incredible speed, explosiveness and technical prowess.
The consensus Fighter of the 1990s, Jones has won world titles at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight and is undoubtedly one of the greatest fighters ever.
