Written by

So, who the heck is Gerald Washington?

A 34 year old, undefeated, 6'6" Californian, Washington is managed by Al Haymon and ranked in the bottom half of the WBC's top 10 in the heavyweight division.

The son of an African American father and a Mexican American mother, Washingtom served in the United States Navy and played football for the USC Trojans before earning roles on the practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills.

At the advanced age of 30, Washington made his pro debut in 2012. And yes, he has some wins against a familiar names including Sherman Williams (UD 8), Ray Austin (KO), Eddie Chambers (UD 8), Jason Gavern (UD) Nagy Aguilera (UD) and Travis Walker (TKO).

And his lone blemish, a draw, came compliments of Amir Monsour in 2015.

Washington is athletic but has never been in the ring with a fighter as athletic as Deontay Wilder's nor anyone who possesses the latter's skill, speed and punching power. Moreover, Gerald lacks the pedigree we are used to seeing in a top 10 or even top 20 contender.

Should Washington defeat Wilder, it would be one of the biggest upsets in the modern heavyweight era.
