Does Rocky fight Drago in Creed 2?Written by Leroy Cleveland
Creed 2 (or Rocky 8) will debut on Thanksgiving and there's a lot of speculation about Rocky Balboa's role in the film.
In this latest Creed segment, Rocky's protege, Adonis Creed, faces the son of his father's killer, Ivan Drago. And yes, appearing in a Rocky movie for the first time since Rocky 4 (1985), Dolph Lundgren will reprise his role as the infamous Drago.
So, will Rocky fight Drago in Creed 2?
Answer: Certainly. In some way, shape or form, there will be a physical exchange.
I think it's very likely; But if it happens, it won't be a traditional boxing match this time. Look for tempers to flare, causing an ensuing altercation at a venue where both men are present. Or maybe, just maybe, the elder Drago shows up at a gym, taunts Rocky and lures him into the ring in front a small crowd of boxers and trainers.
Let's not forget, Ivan Drago is a bitter man. His epic loss to Rocky some 33 years prior probably sent his life into a tailspin. Heavily favored against the much smaller Balboa in the most-watched boxing event ever, Drago, the Russian, was defeated by Rocky in front of a worldwide audience after the Soviet government had hyped Ivan as an unbeatable killing machine. Following the loss, he was likely rejected by his countrymen and never able to shake that "betrayer" stigma.
Last week, Lundgren shared more details about what to expect from Drago this time around:
"He's lost everything -- his country, his wife, his respect and he's been living as an outcast when we find him," he told Celebtainment.
"The only thing he has that's worth anything, apart from his drive for redemption, is his son who is another heavyweight fighter."
And when questioned if Drago and Rocky fight again, Lundgren offered a mysterious reply.
"You'll have to see the picture but there is a surprise in that realm I would think, yes."
"That's all I can say."
Forget that Drago are Rocky are probably something like 60 and 72, respectively, right now. Drago wants a piece real bad, even if Rocky is physically ill and still battling cancer.
In August 2017, Stallone told TMZ Sports that things will get violent between Rocky and Drago, saying: “It wouldn’t be a party without Drago would it? I’m gonna punch him. You know I gotta hit Drago once.”
Also, given Stallone and Lundgren started intense training for the film, one must surmise they'll be doing something physical. Of course, that doesn't mean they have to fight but it sure makes it more likely.
In March, Stallone gave fans a glimpse of his strength by performing pull-ups with an extra 100 lbs. of weight attached to his body.
“Another easy workout! You’re only as old as you and your joints feel! LOL," he tweeted.
Creed 2, directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Lundgren, Stallone, Michael B Jordan and Florian Munteanu will hit cinemas around Thanksgiving (late November).
So what'll happen when Rocky fights Drago again?
