Pacquiao vs Broner prediction: Common opponent chimes inWritten by Leroy Cleveland
Welterweight contender Jessie Vargas (28-2-2, 10 KO) knows what it’s like to share the ring with Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner.
Vargas dropped a unanimous decision to Pacquiao in 2016 and drew with Broner earlier this year.
So, what does he think about January's showdown between Manny and Adrien?
“Pacquiao-Broner? I think Pacquiao takes it," Vargas recently told ES News.
"I think he’s the more experienced fighter of the two. I’d have to say Pacquiao takes it."
But when asked whose punching power was superior, Vargas hesitated to give Pacquiao the definitive advantage:
"Who hits harder? I’d say Pacquiao is the stronger fighter and faster and more explosive. Two different fighters, you can’t really compare them because they fight differently."
"It’s two different styles. When it comes to defensive, they’re both good, they’re defensive, Pacquiao’s just faster in everything he does.”
Vargas, in his most recent outing, drew with Thomas Dulorme (then 24-3) and, in addition to fighting Pacquiao and Broner, has previously faced standouts such as Sadam Ali, Tim Bradley and Antonio DeMarco.
He defeated Ali and DeMarco.
Ranked No. 12 in the loaded welterweight division by BoxRec, Vargas is well-qualified to offer his assessment. And although Jessie didn't predict a round or the type of victory, he squarely sees Manny winning a 'very good fight.'
"Manny Pacquiao is on another level because he’s fast, explosive, he’s very versatile and he fights with different angles, you know."
"Manny Pacquiao has to win as well, he wants to prove himself. If he wins this fight he fights Floyd Mayweather so he has an extra incentive to win this fight. Either way you look at it it’s a good fight.”
