Rocky fights Drago in a hospital? | Creed 2Written by Leroy Cleveland
The long-awaited debut of Creed 2 is finally upon us.
After months of speculation and numerous trailers and clips, the movie debuts today.
One of the biggest questions surrounding the movie is: Does Rocky fight Drago in Creed 2?
In fact, some stage footage was recently released suggesting that an aging Rocky Balboa, now in his early 70s, engages in a street fight of sorts with longtime rival Ivan Drago. And this fight takes place in a hospital.
Who knows if the below video footage was leaked on purpose or by accident? Until last week, the movie’s producers had done an excellent job in not revealing if or how Rocky and Drago would fight.
My best guess is Adonis badly losses his first fight against Viktor Drago and is sent to the hospital. While Rocky is there visiting him, the elder Drago, motivated by his son's win, finds Balboa and attempts to get even for Rocky's KO of him 33 years prior.
Of course, all of this is pure speculation.
Will the Dragos go 2 for 2 for the night? Or will Rocky silence Ivan once again?
Let's not forget, Ivan Drago is a bitter man. His epic loss to Rocky some 33 years prior sent his life into a tailspin.
Heavily favored against the much smaller Balboa in the most-watched boxing event ever, Drago, the Russian, was defeated by Rocky in front of a worldwide audience after the Soviet government had hyped Ivan as an unbeatable killing machine. Following the loss, he was likely rejected by his countrymen and never able to shake that "betrayer" stigma.
Does Rocky, who battled cancer in the previous film and is about 12-15 years older than Ivan, lose to Drago in the street fight? Even worse, does Drago kill a presumably vulnerable Rocky?
Dolph Lundgren, who reprised his role as the villainous Drago, hinted there would be a surprise with regards to Rocky fighting Drago again.
Regardless, it may very well be Rocky's final (physical) fight during a stretch of 8 movies and 42 years. Don't expect to see the heralded Balboa unleash bombs after Creed 2.
Fast Fact: The original version of Rocky V (1990) called for Rocky Balboa to die after a severe in-ring beating by Tommy Gunn, played by late boxer Tommy Morrison.
"At the end of the movie, he is on the way to hospital. His head is in Adrian’s lap and he dies because he’s taken this great beating from Tommy Gunn,” according to director John Avildsen via PhiladelphiaCBSLocal.com.
“And the last scene of the movie, Adrian comes out of the hospital and there’s the world press assembled because Rocky then is a big deal and she announces that he is dead, but as long as people believe in themselves Rocky's spirit will live forever."
Let's hope Rocky unleashes another old-fashioned can of whoop ass on the evil Drago.
