Botha Scores Impressive KO, Wants Holyfield RematchWritten by Boxing Man
Former top heavyweight contender Francois Botha shocks a young up-and-comer in South Africa.
Promising 21 year old South African heavyweight Flo Simba was taken to school by veteran Francois Botha on Saturday. It was Simba's first defeat as a pro.
Simba (11-1) was jolted by two big right hands from the 42 year old Botha and was seemingly out on his feet.
Botha, who lost to Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield in his career, improved to 48-5-3-1NC.
Simba looked to dominate a seemingly out-of-shape Botha early, landing his trademark right hook in the first round. But the cagey Botha used his ring experience to whether the storm and eventually assert power on Simba.
"Botha's experience showed against Simba's inexperience but he looked the part for five rounds," said Brian Mitchell, Simba's manager.
This fight confirmed that the wily veteran might have a few big fights left in him.
"I am busy with negotiations with the WBF for a rematch with Evander Holyfield somewhere in Africa, a fight in Brazil, the Bahamas and Japan," he said after the bout.
Botha lost to Holyfield just over a year ago via a TKO in a fringe WBF fight. (video below)
